Back in California!

Well we are back! It's been a while and we have taken time to settle in. The weather extremes are just that from coast to coast. When we stepped off the plane I had my snow boots on and both of us had 2-3 layers of clothing. We looked pretty hilarious stepping out in to the 50+degree humid and clear starry San Francisco night.  We had a great Valentine's Day spent with Josh's mom who picked us up at the hotel. We went to see the movie "Valentine's Day" and had a great lunch.

Back home the blossoms were in bloom and Josh took full advantage. I would have been a fool to follow him with my allergies! I can smell the heavely sweet smell from a difference. Well we are back in the swing of things and that said it's time to go out and conquer the warm California day!

I decided to write some more because Josh my darling gorgeous husband wanted another haircut. Yes, I am also hairstylist to my #1 star!
Family, Friends, what do you think?
He wanted a mullet and a mohawk and I was mortified but I think we  made a nice compromise by keeping the length on the top and the very back bottom.

Snowed in while watching "Pride and Prejudice"

Snowed in while watching "Pride and Prejudice"

Well greetings from Long Island NY! We are looking out our window at what used to be a gorgeous view of Manhattan and Queensboro Bridge but is now just a sea of white and snow flurries. It's still unbelievably beautiful and romantic. It's our first "snow" together. On our honeymoon 2 years ago we played in old crunchy slushy snow but now we can't wait for it to die down a bit so we can have snow fights and go sledding with one of our best gals Sabrina who lives in Harlem. So far our trip has been fantastic except for the plane and cab ride to JFK and then to the hotel.

The plane ride was wild with a laughing and then screaming kid and someone laying out some seriously awful smells that got me (Duana) looking for the barf-bags just in case. Gross!
Josh has amazing luck on our travels- good and bad thing! We caught a taxi who I know took the long way 'round to over charge us (I had my GPS on my IPhone!) and then proceeded to throw his tip (our money mind you) literally out the window yelling in protest that his tip should have been more! Hahahahahahaha! I told the guy to have a great day and take care of himself as my husband was already getting our bags out of the trunk of the cab! I have never had an experience like that in NY. I told Josh, "Well... welcome to New York!"
After that though our trip has been splendid. From seeing our friend Sabrina, to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, getting front row seats at David Letterman (be sure to watch us this Friday night Feb 12) and everything else in between.
Josh's Log: Bring a scarf! It's cold. I am amazed how humans can survive even colder climates. I am a baby when it comes to colder climates even though I braved the elements in Utah during my college years. I've never been this far east in North America. Last time I was in the Eastern US I played football in the hot humidity of Toledo, Ohio. East coast and Central Europe have strong similarities of extremes. My Moscow experience was hot and sticky. The subway in Moscow smelled similar to the New York subs. Speaking of which I lost $200 from a pick pocket in Moscow. That kept me leary of suspicious people on the train. As my wife laughs while she mimics me,"Did someone touch my bag?!" I feel the Moscow experience created a fear, I call Subphobia. Subphobia is a deep desire to try and fit in and not look like an outsider.

So far I followed my list of rules. (See the list on the right. I'm totally serious...well mostly!)

It just sucks I can't be myself, except for the simple moments when Duana and I give each other little kisses it helps me forget what people might be thinking. I still hate the fact that people view us differently being an interacial couple and I can't read minds. I do feel awkward walking past older black women and tall younger black males. I am fine with white males I figure they are just jealous. I wish I had a switch in my brain and I can turn it from the "on posistion" to the "I don't give a rats behind about what people think about me, off button" But New York makes you feel like after one day on the sub and the fact that one speaks English. I belong here! "I am a NEW YORKER!" It's like Central L.A. to the notion that many in Manhattan weren't really born here. Everyone is a visitor. Everyone has a dream. Everyone is invited. Everyone is accepted.
The highlight of course was David Letterman front row, but also a hidden jewel in Queens. "Dena's Diner." Thank you Jimmy for the five star New Yorker service. There are really wonderful people in this world.
Well that's all we want to write about for now. We wonder if these flat roofs are going to cave in with all of this snow? Hum... Back to watching Pride and Prejudice (the Colin Firth one!).
